This will be facilitated by the construction of large orbital habitats in jig- factories. This paper describes the launch and orbital transfer system required to take parts of the first basic jig-factories, manufactured on Earth and later on the Moon to be assembled in orbit. Oxygen from Lunar metal smelting with imported hydrogen as propellant makes chemical rockets much cheaper than any other candidate propulsion method for crewed Lunar launch and orbital transfer. However, electric mass drivers with Solar electric orbital transfer vehicles using Lunar oxygen propellant will be best for feedstock delivery and this is described in a separate paper. Consequently, development can begin in Lunar orbit without the need for significant technical development provided sufficient quantities of volatiles can be imported affordably. Furthermore, modern manufacturing methods enable a jig-factory with a mass of <1% of Avalon to be built, so large habitats can be made in their final orbit rather than at L5 as suggested by O’Neill. The very first jig factory will be modular in construction assembled on the Moon and shipped up to orbit with a Cargo Lunar Shuttle. Pre-existing Lunar factories built to extract resources would be partly repurposed for jig factory module construction..

Keywords: SPACE Project, BIS Orbital Settlement Project, Orbital Construction, Jig-factory, SABRE Electrically Augmented Thermal Nuclear Rocket, Scorpion Nuclear-powered Spaceship

[3911

post-60889","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-2026-papers","first","instock","downloadable","virtual","purchasable","product-type-simple","czr-hentry
["GET
