In the absence of some clear action by our civilization, it is safe to say that fossil fuels will continue indefinitely as the world ‘s dominant source of energy. The total consequences of this truth remain uncertain, but it is also safe to say that the environmental, economic, political, and military change s arising from this dependence would be adverse if not catastrophic.
