Abstract:

SINCE THE FIRST presentation of our estimate for the number of habitable planets in the Galaxy at the 2nd. BIS Conference on Interstellar Travel and Communication, and especially since its publication in JBIS, we have been encouraged by the critical response which we have received. Several of the implicit underlying assumptions which we made have been questioned and discussed, and many points of detail have been raised.
