Abstract:

This paper describes the aperture door developed for the UK Wide Field Camera on ROSAT. This door is required not only to provide a good seal against the ingress of contamination on the ground but also to provide the main venting path for the sealed volume during the depressurisation experienced in the launch phase. This has lead to the development of a lightweight, flexible door with good sealing properties.
