Abstract:

The search for extraterrestrial (ET) intelligence at radio frequencies began with project Ozma but has produced no evidence for their existence. The success of such an endeavour requires that:

(1) there are advanced technological civilisations in the galaxy either communicating with one another or trying to communicate with us,

(2) it is possible to detect their signals, and

(3) such signals can be deciphered when received.
