Abstract:

The United States and other spacefaring nations are looking towards the Moon and Mars as the next frontiers for human exploration . A strategy identified by the space community that will facilitate this exploration is to develop habitats on the Lunar or Martian surfaces. The commitment of time, effort and finances required for such a venture means that: success must be inevitable the first time the habitats are occupied. A critical step toward this objective is the development of an Earth-based analog environment. Such an environment will be used as a testbed for Lunar or Mars habitation.
