Abstract:
Increasing amounts of carbon dioxide and trace gases in the atmosphere are expected to lead to global warming by I-5°C by the middle of the next century [1,2). This can cause the melting of polar ice leading to elevated sea levels and the flooding of coastal cities and other low-lying areas, as well loss of cultivable areas. In the worst case, further wam1ing with positive feedback could lead to a nm-away hothouse effect. It is interesting to examine whether the warming trend could be prevented or reversed.
