FOR 23 YEARS SINCE the American Vanguard 1 satellite was launched, solar arrays have played a dominant role as energy supplies for space missions. For most of the programmes that have been, or are going to be, flown there are no competitive energy sources available. The importance of solar array technology is still increasing.
