Abstract:

The purpose of this short paper is to briefly describe those aspects of the system at the University Observatory, St. Andrews which are available for the computerized reduction of astronomical data and are relevant to image processing. The system is completely self-contained and is based on two mini computers. These w re originally installed primarily for device control, but it was realised that they were also sufficiently powerful to be capable of processing much of the observational data at the Observatory. One advantage of a completely in-house system relative to remote processing is that the user retains complete control over his data and the operation of the system; furthermore, the design of the system can be tailored to reflect his needs.
