Abstract:

In reaction to the American goal to reach the Moon before the end of the sixties, the Soviet Union started with its own Lunar programme. One of the key elements in this programme was a heavy lift launcher, designated N- 1. Although it was known in the West that the Russians had constructed a huge launcher, its existence was not confirmed by the Russians till 1989. After it had been revealed, data became available on this rocket, some containing fairly complete sets of data compiled from different sources.
