Abstract:
The presence of the energetic particle radiation belts, discovered by van Allen in 1958, requires spacecraft engineers to consider the effects of radiation on spacecraft systems. The space radiation environment has been measured by various instruments in orbit and models of the radiation belts have been produced from these measurements.
