Abstract:

It is a pleasure for me to be here today. I grew up just a couple of miles from here, so giving a talk here is like coming home. but I confess that I’m not quite at home at a conference on interstellar flight. I’m still a little puzzled at why Ed Belbruno asked me to give one of the keynotes, particularly when the other was being given by Bob Forward. who knows as much about the subject as anyone. It reminds me of the guy who was being given a group achievement award. He said, “I really don’t know why I’m getting this award. I didn’t do anything. But they said that was important too”.
