Abstract:
There will probably be many reasons why our descendants may attempt to terraform Mars and Venus. It is apparent even today that it is already within human capability to influence the environment on a planetary scale. This we know from the stressed state of the Earth’s atmosphere at the present time. Indeed, as McKay et al have recently observed, the first atmosphere to be terraformed may be that of the Earth.
