Abstract:
The BIS SPACE Project is an update of proposals for space settlement developed by Gerard K. O’Neill and co-workers in the 1970s. This overview of the Avalon space habitat, more qualitative than quantitative, is intended as a summary survey and orientation. It is based on the detailed design papers published in the present issue of JBIS and editions to follow dedicated to the SPACE Project.
