BIS Insights Book Collection

Collection of six books giving unique insight into advances of humanity in Earth’s orbit, the search for life on Mars, and the potential to support human life on Mars, and into the British Interplanetary Society and its contributions to space exploration.

Books in the collection are:

• Interplanetary – A History of the British Interplanetary Society
  • The definitive history of the British Interplanetary Society, drawn from a number of sources, each written from the perspective of the various authors and their involvement with the Society.

• The International Space Station – From Imagination to Reality, Volumes 1 & 2
  • Two books detailing the development of the International Space Station covering the first concepts, through the initial stages of construction up to the end of 2005.

• The History of Mir; 1986 – 2000
  • Reflecting all aspects of its development, operation, research, missions and achievements as it played host to the first steps of real international co-operation in the exploration of space.

• The Search for Life on Mars
  • Produced to convey the excitement of the first ‘Search for Life on Mars’ symposium, and to speculate about the types of life that might have arisen on Mars, and how to find them.

• Project Boreas – A Station for the Martian Geographic North Pole
  • The book describes the human and scientific factors necessary for explorers to survive at the Martian pole for two Martian years.
