Abstract:

Most asteroids have orbits which lie between Mars and Jupiter though some have orbits which may intersect the paths of the Earth. Two different classes of such asteroids are identified:

(1) A TEN asteroids, defined by a semi-major axis lower than 1.0 AU and an aphelion distance greater than =938 AU, which corresponds to the perihelion distance of the Earth.

(2) APOLLO asteroids, defined by a semi-major axis greater than 1 AU, and a perihelion distance lower than 1.017 AU, the actual aphelion distance for the Earth.
