Abstract:

Estimates of the possible number of planetary systems suitable for life are in the order of 1021 [l]. One is forced to conclude that there is nothing unique about our Sun, which is the mainstay of life on this planet. The existence of life on Earth is not due to a fortuitous event, but rather the consequence of a continuous evolutionary process which began with the origin of the universe.
