Abstract:

In order to track and observe the Soviet Sputnik, eight artificial satellite observation stations were set up in a number of cities, such as Beijing, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Changchun. The Office of Observation of Artificial Satellites was also formed in the Chinese Academy of Science, and a Research Division on Satellite Dynamics Theory was set up in Zhijinshan (violet-Golden Mountain), at the Astronomical Observatory in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
