Abstract:

CLUSTER is a scientific mission funded by the Solar Terrestrial Science Programme, the purpose of which is to investigate key interaction processes of cosmic plasma. The closest and most accessible regions where these processes can be observed is where the Earth’s magnetic field interacts with the solar wind. The CLUSTER space segment consists of four spin stabilised satellites, each placed into an operational orbit such that its respective location. when crossing the regions or scientific interest, will be at the vertex of a tetrahedron at a predefined separation distance from the other three.
