Abstract:

When the Soviet Union began work on ‘Program 11F35 ‘, later named Buran, several groups of cosmonauts started training for the initial test flying of the vehicle. As had been done in the US with the space shuttle, a number of Approach and Landing Tests (ALT) were to be flown before the vehicle was to be launched into orbit.
