Abstract:

In the late 1970s, ESA formed the ‘Board for Software Standardisation and Control’ to define a common approach to software engineering that could be applied to all deliverable software implemented for the Agency, either in house or by industry. ESA was ahead of most large organisations in trying to control its software projects in this way.
