Abstract:

EUTELSAT II F-1, the first of the planned six second generation EUTELSAT communications satellites, was successfully launched by Ariane4on August 30th 1990. This marks the birth
of a new generation of satellites which will provide EUTELSAT’s customers with both:

(1) continuity throughout the 1990s of services currently provided via EUTELSAT I satellites (the first generation of’ European Communications Satellite, ECS) and

(2) expansion of services, via the increased communications capacity of each new satellite.
