Abstract:

Since its beginning in the 1950’s the scientific debate on exobiology has often been in the form of the so-called ‘Drake Equation’. All terms in that equation, also called ‘the most concise list of our ignorance’ are, however, too arbitrary to allow a scientific approach. To take only one example, it is clear that only a small increase in engineering would make crude interstellar probes a possibility for our culture. It has been argued that human-like species are a natural evolution from one gene.
