Abstract:

Human beings are water-based organisms with biochemical functions which require complex molecules. We have evolved by a long continuous process lasting several thousands of millions of years, a significant fraction of the age of the Universe. As a consequence of our need for a particular environment, our composition and the timescale of our evolution, we have a stance in the Universe which is not randomly selected and our view of it is a consequence of our own nature. In particular, stars and galaxies look the way they do because we ourselves are the observers. This is an example of the weak anthropic principle, a theme
which can be developed in detail.
