Abstract:

The planetary engineering of Mars suitable for habitation by humans is likely to be in the very minimum a two stage process. The first stage defined by Haynes is called ecopoiesis and the end point of this can be viewed as the creation of an ecosystem suitable for and filled by anaerobic and possibly micro-aerobic organisms.
