Abstract:

Ever since the first satellite launch space scientists have consistently requested ever larger launch vehicles to carry their next spacecraft. As spacecraft subsequently became larger and more complex, so too did the ground segment required to control and monitor it. In order to protect the large investment made in the space segment the ground segment was designed to ensure very high reliability.
