Abstract:

IT TAKES A RADIO SIGNAL about 10 years to reach the nearest solar type stars. It seems unlikely that higher civilisations are orbiting these stars and are able to emit radio signals. It seems rather optimistic even to suggest that there might be a higher civilisation only a hundred light years away. But even if there were, it would be virtually impossible to hold a conversation with them; the “low” speed of propagation of the messages would simply not allow it.
