Abstract:

The advantages of large satellites have been proclaimed by their supporters for a long time-less orbit crowding, fewer ground control facilities, more economical multi-purpose platforms and service versatility. Now, with the Shuttle approaching its operational phase, and Ariane on the road to commercial operations, the lifting power is becoming available, and we can start to enjoy the advantages of large satellites.
