Abstract:

Lunar-based telescopes are being proposed as the principal facilities implementing the astrophysical research programs of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and other science organizations during the twenty first century. They would supplement and, perhaps, succeed NASA’s “Great Observatories”, including Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Gamma Ray Observatory (GRO), Advanced X-Ray Astrophysics Facility (AXAF), and Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF).
