Abstract:

ESA’s ERS-l system marks a milestone in both European remote sensing ambitions and the advent of widely distributed ground facilities necessary to exploit a mission of this complexity. Large data processing systems arc required on the ground to schedule, monitor and control the satellite operations and to acquire. process and transmit the remote sensing data in a useable form to the end-user.
