Abstract:

The author, in his preceding investigations or this problem, has proposed a concept of the lunar surface key region as the most expedient approach to choice of location for the first phase of the manned lunar base. The essence of this approach is that the region chosen has to satisfy several requirements simultaneously. including favourable conditions for transport operations, communication with the Earth, astronomical observations, solving fundamental scientific tasks of studying the Moon and Solar system, technological investigations and the use of the local natural resources.
