Abstract:

My intention in writing this article was to explore the effects of long duration space flights, and in particular interstellar flight, using straightforward terms which would be equally acceptable for biologically and non-biologically trained readers. I hope that medically qualified readers will not find this treatment too brief and simplistic; I find that it is always helpful to return to first principles with any new problems, whatever one’s experience.
