Abstract:
In the far distant future it may well be considered desirable to engineer structural changes within the Sun and Jupiter. In the former case to extend the canonical main sequence lifetime, while in the latter to aid humanities colonization of the solar system. A number of engineering scenarios have been proposed to achieve such ends, and several invoke the use of sub-stellar mass black holes. The timescales of the mixing and accretion scenarios are investigated in this paper, and it is found that both rapid (of order hours) and exceptionally long (many billions of years) options are available according to the desired structural changes being sought.
