Abstract:
Project 863 is a horizontal programme for the development of new technologies in Chinese industry and technology. It now plays an important role in developing leading edge aspects of the Chinese space programme. This paper attempts to piece together what is known of project 863 and its contribution to the space programme from 1986 to 2002.
