Abstract:

Why is the Earth teeming with life while other planets in our Solar system are lifeless? What is the likelihood of life elsewhere in the Universe? These questions have fascinated scientists and laymen alike for generations. Recent findings in astronomy and planetary science are beginning to provide answers which suggest we may be more optimistic than before that life exists elsewhere in the Universe.
