Abstract:
Proton, Russia’s biggest launch vehicle, has been in operation for more than 30 years. Originally designed purely as a weapon system and transport vehicle for a manned lunar explorer, it has evolved into Russia’s only launcher for geostationary satellites as well as for heavy low-Earth orbit payloads. The launch of Astra-1F marked its entry into the international commercial satellite market.
