Abstract:

The Roentgen Satellite (ROS AT) is an astronomical observatory satellite launched into a Low Earth Orbit (580 km) by a Delta II expendable launch vehicle on June 1st 1990.. The ROSAT project is an international collaborative venture between Germany, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Managed by the German federal government’s research and technology ministry (BMFT), the spacecraft was built by German industry, the main X-ray telescope and some of its detectors were designed and built by the Max Planck Institute for
extra-terrestrial physics (MPE) and the smaller extreme  ultraviolet (XUV) telescope, the Wide Field Camera (WFC) by a British consortium of universities and research laboratories.
