Abstract:
SCOS-II is being developed by an international consortium with Science Systems (Space) Limited providing a number of key staff. Development has been undertaken in response to a number of difficulties and limitations with existing Mission Control Systems. These lie in part with the inflexibility of existing systems and with the high cost of maintenance. Modification to add additional functionality to support new missions has been extremely costly. SCOS-II is an infrastructure project which addresses these issues through the development of a new generation of mission control systems. This development involves a fresh analysis of the problem domain to allow a standard set of functionality to be produced.
