Abstract:

While some estimates of the number of advanced civilisation in the Galaxy are large others suggest that, if advanced civilisations exist, they should be in the solar system given the short time required for a civilisation to colonise the entire Galaxy compared to its age. Hence, as there is no reliable evidence of extra-terrestrials within the solar system, it is concluded that there is no such life in the entire Galaxy (“Fermi paradox”, [2,3]). Yet others, however, (e.g. Brin 1983 [4]) consider numerous factors that may mitigate this apparent paradox.
