Skylark Sounding Rockets – Past And Present

Abstract:

The production of a suitable solid propellant motor for Skylark was undertaken by the Rocket Propulsion Establishment at Westcott, now Royal Ordnance and the Banwell Division of Bristol Aircraft ltd – now Bristol Aerojet Limited (BAJ). Given the name Raven the 17 inch diameter motor was the largest solid fuel sounding rocket then in use and had a burning time of 30 seconds.
