Abstract:

An inherent problem in the use of satellites for observing the Earth is the need to penetrate the atmosphere and, in particular, layers of cloud. Radar, of course, can provide all weather operation and side-looking imaging radar sensors can allow large areas of the Earth’s surface to be reliably imaged at any time, day or night.
