Abstract:

In July 1969 people on Earth, for the first time in history, saw their own planet through the eyes of people on another world, the Apollo astronauts. The impact was stunning…and long lasting. Satellites had previously sent down pictures of Earth but somehow that was more theoretical, scientific and hence more abstract.
