Abstract:

The Italsat Programme conducted by the Italian Space Agency (ASI – Agenzia Spaziale ltaliana) was initiated in 1979 with the object of developing an advanced telecommunications satellite, employing SS-TDMA techniques, for integration in the national telecommunications network, bearing in mind the future ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). Telespazio carried out the system definition study. After implementation of the ground support system (from 1989 to 1990) and the successful launch, work began on the operational services of satellite and network control during the routine phase.
