Abstract:

The photoreconnaissance satellite programme has been the largest single element of the former Soviet Union’s space programme. Starting with the flight of Cosmos 4 in April 1962, all of the launches in the programme prior to and following the launch of Cosmos 2290 (through to June 1995) have used either the Voslok, Voskhod or Soyuz launch vehicles, indicating a mass range of about 4-7 metric tonnes for the different satellite families.
