Abstract:

It is very common for contemporary ESA spacecraft designs to have, at the centre, a computer system to control its many complex operations. In recent years these computer systems have become increasingly powerful, bringing benefits in the form of increased autonomy, recovery from failure situations and sophistication in on-board data processing. However, this increased complexity also brings problems in terms of testing and maintenance of the flight software and of modelling the system in the operational training simulator.
