Abstract:

The two German developments which most influenced British HTP rocket engine design were the Walter ATO (assisted take-off) unit and 109-509 engine. The former was a ‘cold’ unit, hydrogen peroxide and liquid catalyst being injected into the uncooled combustion chamber by means of air pressure.
