Abstract:

TH E LUNAR ULTRAVIOLET TEL ESCOPE (LUTE) has been identified as a strong candidate to be the first astronomy pay load to be operated from the surface or the Moon. First proposed by McGraw in 1992, the LUTE concept was the subject of an intensive, two-year feasibility and conceptual design study by the LUTE Task Team of the Marshall Space Flight Center.
