Abstract:

References [ 1-4] put forward a hypothesis for the origin of life on Earth based on the results from the analysis of the Viking space probes seeking life on Mars. This hypothesis suggested that the cradle of life on Earth lay not in the oceans but in the regolith, i.e. porous soil. This dates the origin of life to the early Precambrian, before seas, oceans and other large bodies of water bad appeared on the Earth’s surface.
