UK Spaceports and Martin’s Law – Politics, Economics and/or Engineering?
With the first launch of a small launch vehicle (SLV) from Space Hub Sutherland on the A’ Mhoine peninsula expected within a year, and with a current total of about 200 proposals for small launch vehicle concepts, some of whom actually have (some) funding, it is worth asking whether we are on the verge of a new golden era of space launch activity in the UK. This talk will look at the economic realities involved – how big is the market, how much does it really cost to develop an SLV, where does the money go, and what does the competition look like?
