Abstract:

Until recently the norm in spacecraft design has been large, complicated and expensive satellites. However, interest is now beginning to focus on smaller, less complex satellites which offer reduced development life cycles and lower budgets. In response to this emerging market, Cray Systems Space Division, with its considerable satellite control centre experience, is developing CLEO, a “small” satellite control centre specifically targeted at the monitoring and control of “small sats”, but which could equally be used as a backup system for conventional missions.
